2015 – Western History/Genealogy Center at Denver Public Library

DPL

The Sept 19th Genealogy Round-table Forum at the West Nebraska Family Research & History Center is actually going to be a field trip to the Western History/Genealogy Center at the Denver Public Library.  The 5th floor Western History & Genealogy Center of the Denver Public Library opens to public at 9:00 am on Saturday, our plan is to be there at approximate 10am to meet our tour guide, Lou-Jean Rehn, who will show us around and provide our orientation to the collection.

The Colorado Genealogical Society will be holding their monthly meeting at the library in the Western History and Genealogy Center in the morning from 9:30 until about noon, then there is a break for lunch and then the Computer Interest Group will have their meeting in the afternoon. There are guaranteed to be good lectures and programs all day.  The President of the Colorado Genealogical Society has been notified that we will be at the Center to tour and research in the collection.  As soon as we hear back from them we will post their reply on our website at wnfrhc.org/field-trip so keep an eye on that page for late breaking field trip news.

We were not able to secure a hotel group rate for our visit due to not knowing exactly how many rooms we would need.  Of the four places we contacted, every one asked for a 10 room minimum while providing very little price break.  We opted to have everyone book their own rooms at whichever hotel they are interested in and then meet at the DPL.  Car pooling is still an option for those that want to drive/ride together so a sign up sheet has been placed at the front counter at the Center.  The names of individuals that will be going and the day they are leaving is listed on the sheet.  Please feel free to call or stop by to look at the list and make your travel arrangements.

For information, Floyd & Stacia will be leaving Friday afternoon at approximately 1:00pm and will be staying at the Comfort Inn & Suites on Quebec St., in Denver (approx. 7.3 miles, 20 min drive from the library).  We can comfortably take two other passengers with us especially if you are staying at the same hotel.

Details are still being develop so keep an eye on this page as information will be changing quickly.  Right now we are planning to travel to Denver as a group in a car pool on Friday, Sept. 18th.
