Bad Men & Bad Towns
by Wayne C. Lee

A county-by-county record of killings, raids, and vigilante hangings in Nebraska Territory and the early state. The opening section covers the Arikara fight at Fort Atkinson in 1823, the Hiram Scott legend in what became Scotts Bluff County, the 1854 Mormon cow incident, and the 1864 Eubanks killings near Oak in Nuckolls County. Later chapters move through Hall, Platte, Clay, and Thayer counties, then the railroad and cow towns. Lee lived near Lamar, Nebraska, and wrote a long run of plains histories. This one is the violence volume.
