This is a magazine special, not a separately published book. The cover is a photograph of the post in the White River valley, with an oval portrait of a cavalry officer. 114 pages of photographs and short text, history of the post and the site as it stood in 1986.

Researchers use it for pictures of the fort, the agency, and the valley. It does not replace Tom Buecker’s later fort histories.
