Minatare Memories
A Historical Account of the Tabor-Minatare Community of Western Nebraska
by the Minatare Historical Committee

Six local women spent three years and 156 meetings on this book: Juanita Baker, Sharon Curtis Johns, Jolene Webber Kaufman, Betty Kelso Kenyon, Wanda Steffensmeier Mowry, and Alice Jessup Walters Reuter. They worked from scrapbooks, diaries, and newspapers. Print Express (now defunct) in Scottsbluff printed it. The first run of 200 copies sold out at the March 2017 launch. This copy is the second printing. ISBN 978-1-63587-287-3. 339 pages.

It covers the community from 1887, when the settlement was still called Tabor, through the Burlington’s arrival in 1900, the move and the name change to Minatare, and on to the present. The working core for a researcher is the family material and the surname index. About 1,200 names appear. Not every name has its own sketch.

The cover picture is not a local scene. The caption prints it as “The travelers meeting with Minatarre Indians near Fort Clark.” That is the Karl Bodmer plate from the upper Missouri, used because the town took its name from that people. The spelling on the cover is the old one.
