The Abridged Compendium of American Genealogy -v1
First Families of America / A Genealogical Encyclopedia of the United States
Edited by Frederick A. Virkus, under the direction of Albert Nelson Marquis

This is the first of the seven Virkus volumes issued from 1925 to 1942. Subscribers paid for a lineage sketch running from an immigrant ancestor to a person then living, in both male and female lines. Volume I also carries a list of patriotic and hereditary societies. It is indexed. About 1,148 pages. No ISBN.

Researchers use it as a lead, not a courthouse record. A name in it is a start. Absence means nothing. Later volumes are separate books, and the Genealogical Publishing reprints are not this printing.
