This is the standard modern county history for Kimball County. The cover reads Kimball County Nebraska / 100 Years. Libraries catalog it as Kimball County, Nebraska: 100 Years, 1888–1988. The spine title is History of Kimball County, Nebraska, 1888–1988, and the spine is marked Volume 1. It is a large quarto hardcover in black cloth with a pictorial inset: 915 pages, illustrations, portraits, maps on the lining papers, and an index.

Kimball County was cut from Cheyenne County in 1888 and named for Union Pacific official Thomas L. Kimball. The town began as a railroad camp known as Antelopeville before taking the Kimball name in 1885. The book covers that railroad beginning, homestead and Kinkaid-era settlement, farming and ranching on the high tableland, churches and schools, and later chapters of county life, including the oil boom years. Communities treated include Kimball, Bushnell, Dix, and the rural neighborhoods around them.

As with other Curtis Media county volumes, the family section is the working core. Households submitted their own sketches and photographs. Researchers use it for names, marriages, homesteads, churches, schools, and businesses that are hard to reconstruct from courthouse indexes alone.
