The Abridged Compendium of American Genealogy -v2
First Families of America / A Genealogical Encyclopedia of the United States
by Frederick A. Virkus

This is the second of the seven Virkus volumes issued from 1925 to 1942. Subscribers paid for a lineage sketch running from an immigrant ancestor to a person then living, in both male and female lines.

Volume II continues the paid-lineage sketches begun in the 1925 Marquis volume (1).  The title page drops Marquis and names Virkus as publisher. Same use as Volume I: a lead to an immigrant ancestor and the living subscriber, not a substitute for a vital record.

This copy is ex-library, with a “Gen. 2” label and a call-number sticker. The title page carries an ink note that it was purchased by Sue R. Spencer for the D.A.R. Genealogical Library Committee. The date in that note reads 3-22-19, which is before this 1926 printing, so treat it as a prior ownership inscription, not a publication date. Spine cloth is worn and the joints are frayed.
